We run a program of art classes and creative courses for adults and children, in a wide range of subjects, in venues across Liverpool. dot-art art class venues include Liverpool’s landmark arts centre the Bluecoat, the iconic Sefton Park Palm House in leafy south Liverpool, Hope Street Ltd, based in the city’s main shopping area of Lord Street and the historic Williamson Tunnels. All of our sessions are delivered by experienced local tutors and art teachers.

Advance your photography skills in this masterclass one day course, covering the detailed theory of controlling Exposure with a practical workshop of Object and Environment with professional photographer and artist, Bryn Davies.
Life Drawing (10 Week Course)
Tuesdays from 8th May – 10th July 2018, 6.45pm – 9pm
The course is aimed at adults of any age, both beginners and the more advanced, who want to work directly from both the nude and clothed model. Though the course is for ten weeks, it’s intended that students will want to continue for further weeks. Students will progress at their own pace in a friendly, relaxed and flexible class. The course will start with the basics of drawing the whole figure to achieve technical accuracy by learning how to measure.
Beginners Acrylic Painting (10 Week Course)
Tuesdays from 8th May – 10th July 2018, 6.45pm – 9pm
Explore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary painting processes and practices, focusing on the use of acrylic paints, with renowned artist and experienced teacher Richard Meaghan. Suitable for beginner artists trying something new!
Experimenting with Mixed Media (1 Day Workshop)
Sunday 6th May 2018, 11am – 5pm
Explore and create with mixed media on canvas. Mixed media art is a type of visual art which incorporates various types of art media. By combining textures with unusual mediums, the end result is the creative accomplishment. Many techniques, materials and compositions play off each other when creating the piece. There is adventure in not knowing where you are going with it until you get there!
This workshop will present several methods of collecting and arranging, cutting apart and reconnecting, and building materials onto canvas.
This workshop is suitable for any anybody who loves experiment with colour and pattern, or anybody who has never tried before and just wants to have a go!
Drawing for Everyone (3 Day Course)

Learn how to draw accurately and in proportion. Perfect for the complete beginner or those more advanced who feel they need to improve their drawing skills.
Be taught how to use the ‘thumb-and-pencil’ method to measure and draw in a three day intensive course at Bluecoat. Learn the principles of drawing with tutor Roy Munday and develop essential skills for drawing and developing your own style. Gain confidence in your drawing ability and take your new-found skills out of the classroom to sketch the world around you.

Jewellery Making in Metal (10 Week Course)

Learn the basic techniques of jewellery making and make a new piece of jewellery each week! This 10 week evening course includes how to use a jeweller’s piercing saw, drilling, filing and polishing metal correctly and how to create colour, texture and patinas on metal.

Learn how to wood carve with professional sculptor Faith Bebbington at her studio on Love Lane, Liverpool. This course is suitable for beginners and you will be guided during the creation of your very own wood carving.

Watercolour for Beginners
Mondays from 14th May 2018, 6:45pm – 9pm
In this 10 week course, artist Roy Munday will introduce you to the materials needed to create beautiful watercolours. In week one you will be shown how to lay on a basic graduated wash, wet-in-wet and wet-on-dry – two of the essential techniques, together with a variegated wash using more than one colour.
Master these and you will have made big progress and will start enjoying watercolour. Roy will introduce a subject to the class and demonstrate the exercise before you practice yourself. These exercises will follow the principle of ‘lets keep it simple‘ so that your effort can be about mastering technique of using watercolour.

Learn the fundamentals of drawing characterful portraits in this 10 week course led by tutor Kathy Dereli. Starting from the basics, your tutor will provide engaging and creative exercises and tuition to help you improve your portrait drawing or to help get you started. Suitable for beginners.

Led by artist Catherine Carmyllie, this tranquil two hour workshop will give you the opportunity to learn or brush up on basic techniques to help you draw from observation, try different materials and express what you see through drawing, all whilst in the inspiring botanical surroundings of the Sefton Park Palm House.

Creative Garden Photography
One day workshop on Sunday 8th July 2018, 10am – 4pm.
Explore and capture the beauty of nature with our Creative Garden Photography workshop led by fine-art photographer Mark Reeves. The aim of this one day workshop is to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to get the best from your digital camera in order to take better photographs of botanical subjects in the tranquil and leafy setting of Sefton Park.
