We run a program of art classes and courses for adults and children, in a wide range of subjects, in venues across Liverpool. dot-art art class venues include Liverpool’s landmark arts centre the Bluecoat, the iconic Sefton Park Palm House in leafy south Liverpool, Hope Street Ltd, based in the city’s main shopping area of Lord Street and artist studiosAll our sessions are delivered by experienced local tutors and teachers.

Life Drawing (10 Week Course)

Tuesdays from 6th February – 24th April 2018, 6.45pm – 9pm

The course is aimed at adults of any age, both beginners and the more advanced, who want to work directly from both the nude and clothed model. Though the course is for ten weeks, it’s intended that students will want to continue for further weeks. Students will progress at their own pace in a friendly, relaxed and flexible class. The course will start with the basics of drawing the whole figure to achieve technical accuracy by learning how to measure.

Beginners Acrylic Painting (10 Week Course)

Tuesdays from 6th February – 24th April 2018, 6.45pm – 9pm

Explore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary painting processes and practices, focusing on the use of acrylics, with renowned artist and experienced teacher Richard Meaghan. Suitable for beginner artists trying something new!

Experimenting with Mixed Media (1 Day Workshop)

Sunday 25th February 2018, 11am – 5pm

Explore and create with mixed media on canvas. Mixed media art is a type of visual art which incorporates various types of art media. By combining textures with unusual mediums, the end result is the creative accomplishment. Many techniques, materials and compositions play off each other when creating the piece. There is adventure in not knowing where you are going with it until you get there!

This workshop will present several methods of collecting and arranging, cutting apart and reconnecting, and building materials onto canvas.

This workshop/course is suitable for any anybody who loves experiment with colour and pattern, or anybody who has never tried before and just wants to have a go!

Drawing for Everyone (3 Day Course)

Sundays 11th, 18th & 25th March 2018, 11am – 5pm each day

Learn how to draw accurately and in proportion. Perfect for the complete beginner or those more advanced who feel they need to improve their drawing skills.

Be taught how to use the ‘thumb-and-pencil’ method to measure and draw in a three day intensive course at Bluecoat. Learn the principles of drawing with tutor Roy Munday and develop essential skills for drawing and developing your own style. Gain confidence in your drawing ability and take your new-found skills out of the classroom to sketch the world around you.

Advance your photography skills in this masterclass one day course, combining the detailed theory of composition with a practical workshop of object and environment. Photography is an ever-evolving practice of technical craft and creative flair. The basis of a good image lies in combining both the art and science. In this workshop we will aim to balance the theory with practical.

Graffiti (3 Day Course)

Sundays from 4th February 2018, 11am – 5pm

Learn how to graffiti with artist David Andrews. This course set over 3 Sundays begins with an introduction to stencil graffiti and a brief look at the range of graffiti materials and how to use them. From creating multi layered stencils to using different techniques and spray-painted effects, you will find and develop your own style of urban art.

Wood Carving (3 Day Course)

Sundays from 4th March 2018, 11am – 4pm

Learn how to wood carve with professional sculptor Faith Bebbington at her studio on Love Lane, Liverpool. Over the course of 3 weeks you will learn how to use wood carving tools, understand and choose different materials, practice carving techniques and learn how to finish surfaces. This course is suitable for beginners and you will be guided during the creation of your very own wood carving.

Led by professional teacher Hilary Dron, this 6 week drawing workshop will give your creative kids the opportunity to develop their drawing skills and build a lifelong love for art. Open for ages 7 to 11, the class will focus on various forms of drawing to enhance children’s artistic imaginations and how they observe the world around them.

Watercolour for Beginners

Mondays from 5th February 2018, 6:45pm – 9pm

In this 10 week course, artist Roy Munday will introduce you to the materials needed to create beautiful watercolours. In week one you will be shown how to lay on a basic graduated wash, wet-in-wet and wet-on-dry –  two of the essential techniques, together with a variegated wash using more than one colour.

Master these and you will have made big progress and will start enjoying watercolour. Roy will introduce a subject to the class and demonstrate the exercise before you practice yourself. These exercises will follow the principle of ‘lets keep it simple‘ so that your effort can be about mastering technique of using watercolour.

Being creative through drawing even for just a short period of time on a regular basis can improve your focus and create a sense of positive well being. This ten week evening course offers the opportunity to take time out of your busy schedule to spend time focusing on yourself and aims to encourage you to relax through drawing and being creative. The course will take place in the unique setting of Tusk bar of which we will have exclusive use.

Digital Photography: Take Better Photos (10 Week Course)

Tuesdays from 6th February – 10th April 2018, 6pm – 8pm

This 10 week course led by professional photographer Mark Reeves will cover a different topic each week from understanding aperture, shutter speed and ISO, creative use of focus, getting the best results from your zoom lens and getting to grips with viewpoint and composition. The course will be relaxed, fun and informal, taking place in a bar, of which we will have exclusive use.

Sketching in the Tunnels (1 Day Workshop)
