Creative Courses

We run a program of art classes and creative courses for adults and children in a wide range of subjects, in venues across Liverpool. dot-art art class venues include Liverpool’s landmark arts centre the Bluecoat, Baltic Creative CIC based in the city’s creative hub in the Baltic Triangle and the historic Williamson Tunnels. All of our sessions are delivered by experienced local tutors and art teachers.

Evening courses run for 10 weeks and start in Autumn, Winter and Spring, so keep checking back for new listings. If you would like further information, or to suggest a subject for future class, please get in touch.

Running from Tuesday 2nd October 2018, 6:45pm – 9pm

Led by experienced tutor and artist, Roy Munday, develop your life drawing skills with a live model, including accurate measuring, colour and drawing techniques. Suitable for all levels, including beginners.

Explore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary painting processes and practices, focusing on working with acrylics to complete your own personal project.

Textile Arts (10 week course)

Led by experienced tutor and artist Catherine Carmyllie, learn how to do wet feltmaking, handstitching, batik and many more textile techniques with which you can develop your skills using beautiful organics and textiles.

Drawing for Everyone (3 day course)

Running weekly from Sunday 4th November, 11:30am – 5pm

Led by experienced tutor and artist, Roy Munday, learn how to draw accurately and in proportion. Perfect for the complete beginner or those more advanced who feel they need to refresh their skills.

Led by artist Emily Bartlett, delve into the imaginative world of abstract painting, learning about layering, materials, composition and texture.

Running on Sunday 14th October, 11:30am – 5pm

On this intensive one-day course you will learn to take control of your camera to take better pictures, understanding and using the different modes available on most digital cameras.

Photography Masterclass (Composition) (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Sunday 21st October, 11:30am – 5pm

Led by professional photographer Mark Reeves, advance your photography skills in this masterclass one day course, combining the detailed theory of composition with practical on-location shooting.

Oil Painting Techniques (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Sunday 25th November, 11:30am – 5pm

Take your painting skills to the next level in this intensive one day course with artist Richard Meaghan. Discover the fundamental techniques needed to create stunning art including composition, layering, mixing colours and tone. This workshop has very small student numbers to allow for valuable one-to-one time with an experienced tutor.

Festive Feltmaking (1 Day Workshop)

Portrait Drawing (10 Week Course)

Learn the fundamentals of drawing characterful portraits in this 10 week course led by tutor Kathy Dereli. Starting from the basics, your tutor will provide exercises and tuition to help you improve your portrait drawing or help get you started. Suitable for beginners.

Monoprinting (3 Day Course)

Running weekly from Sunday 14th October, 11am – 5pm

Led by artist Bev Evans, you will get hands-on with acrylic paints, a variety of stencils (both man-made and from nature), textured surfaces, masking and sgraffito techniques (scratching/drawing patterns into the paint) to develop your own sets of prints and eventually gift tags, envelopes and printed gift bags.

Led by professional interior designer Ainsley Bonham-Lawson, explore the world of Interior Design in this three day introductory course looking at interior style, materials and textiles, creating floor plans and designing to a brief. Suitable for beginners.

IGNITE: An intensive development workshop for visual artists

IGNITE is an intensive workshop specially designed for visual artists. Understand the artist you are and want to be through coaching and group mentoring, which aims to provide advice and inspiration to help develop and focus your artistic career. Suitable for both emerging and more experienced artists.

Wood Carving (3 Day Course)

Running from Sunday 11th November, 11:00am – 4:00pm

Learn how to wood carve with professional sculptor Faith Bebbington at her studio on Love Lane, Liverpool. Over the course of 3 weeks you will learn how to use wood carving tools, understand and choose different materials, practice carving techniques and learn how to finish surfaces. This course is suitable for beginners and you will be guided during the creation of your very own wood carving.

Sketching in the Tunnels (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Sunday 28th October and Sunday 2nd December, both 10am – 1pm.

The Williamson Tunnels are a unique historical architectural feature of Liverpool. This sketching session is a mixed ability class suitable for experienced artists who want to experience drawing in this unique location or beginners looking to learn useful skills to help record the world around you.

Still Life Drawing (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Saturday 15th September 2018, 2pm – 4pm

In this family friendly workshop become real artists drawing from still life objects. Tutor Roy Munday will demonstrate how to create beautiful pictures of still life objects using tried and tested drawing techniques and traditional teaching methods. Suitable for ages 8 and up.
