Creative Courses

We run a program of art classes and creative courses for adults and children in a wide range of subjects, in venues across Liverpool. dot-art art class venues include Liverpool’s landmark arts centre the Bluecoat, Baltic Creative CIC based in the city’s creative hub in the Baltic Triangle, METAL in Edge Hill, Make. North Docks and the historic Williamson Tunnels. All of our sessions are delivered by experienced local tutors and art teachers.

Evening courses run for 10 weeks and start in Autumn, Winter and Spring, so keep checking back for new listings. If you would like further information, or to suggest a subject for future class, please get in touch.

Festive Feltmaking (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Tuesdays from 5th February, 6:45pm – 9pm

Roy Munday leads a 10 week programme of evening lessons developing your skills in life drawing, including accurate measuring, colour and drawing techniques.

Beginner Acrylic Painting (10 Week Course)

Running on Tuesdays from 5th February, 6:45pm – 9pm

Explore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary painting processes and practices, focusing on the use of acrylics, with renowned artist and experienced teacher Richard Meaghan. Suitable for beginners.

Digital Photography (8 Week Course)

Running on Tuesdays from 12th February, 6:45pm – 9pm and one Saturday 11am – 5pm.

This course is for those who would like to move from being a keen beginner to a competent intermediate photographer. Each week of the course will include both theory and practical exercises.

Feltmaking (1 day workshop)

Running on Sunday 17th February, 11:30am – 5pm.

Develop your photography skills in this introductory one day course, covering the basics of DSLR cameras with an overview of exposure, composition and aperture.

Running on Sundays from 24th March, 11:30am – 5pm.

Delve into the imaginative world of abstract painting with professional artist Emily Bartlett. Suitable for newcomers and for more experienced painters wanting to try something new and exciting.

Learn how to wood carve with professional sculptor Faith Bebbington at her studio on Love Lane, Liverpool. Over the course of 3 weeks you will get hands-on and learn the basics of using wood carving tools, practice carving techniques and learn how to finish surfaces. This course is suitable for beginners and you will be guided during the creation of your very own wood carving.

Monoprinting (3 Day Course)

Running on Saturdays from 23rd March, 11am – 5pm.

Learn the processes and techniques of multi-layered gel plate monoprinting in three single day workshops this winter. With everything done by hand you will use acrylic paints, a variety of stencils (both man-made and from nature), textured surfaces, masking and sgraffito techniques.

Portrait Drawing (10 Week Course)

Running on Thursdays from 7th February, 6pm – 8pm.

Learn the fundamentals of drawing characterful portraits in this 10 week course led by tutor Kathy Dereli. Starting from the basics, your tutor will provide exercises and tuition to help you improve your portrait drawing or help get you started. Suitable for beginners.

Running on Mondays from 28th January, 6pm – 8pm.

Watercolour is the most popular medium for people who take up art. This course is designed for both absolute beginners and those more advanced who are seeking to improve.

Friends of Williamson Tunnels

Sketching in the Tunnels (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Sunday 3rd March and Sunday 28th April, 10am – 1pm.

The Williamson Tunnels are a unique historical architectural feature of Liverpool. This sketching session is a mixed ability class suitable for experienced artists who want to experience drawing in this unique location or beginners looking to learn useful skills to help record the world around you.

Led by artist Sarah Jane Richards, this fun and creative drawing workshop will fuel your young one’s creativity and inspire a lifelong love for art. Starting with the basics, this 6 week series of workshops will focus on drawing techniques, such as line, contour, cross hatching, mark making, negative space, light and shadow and composition. It enables children to understand how to plan and execute their ideas and increases their ability to observe the world around them.
