Creative Courses

We run a program of art classes and creative courses for adults and children in a wide range of subjects, in venues across Liverpool. dot-art art class venues include Liverpool’s landmark arts centre the Bluecoat, the Everyman Theatre, Baltic Creative CIC based in the city’s creative hub in the Baltic Triangle, Make. North Docks and the historic Williamson Tunnels. All of our sessions are delivered by experienced local tutors and art teachers.

Evening courses run for 10 weeks and start in Autumn, Winter and Spring, so keep checking back for new listings. If you would like further information, or to suggest a subject for future class, please get in touch.

Drawing Techniques (10 Week Course)

Running on Tuesdays from 30th April, 6:45 – 9pm

This 10 week course is designed to develop observational and expressive drawing techniques and skills. Led by artist Sarah Jane Richards, this course is suitable for beginners or those wishing to explore aspects of their own practice.

Abstract Painting (3 day course)

Running on three Sundays from 9th June, 6:45 – 9pm

Delve into the imaginative world of abstract painting with professional artist Emily Bartlett. Suitable for newcomers and for more experienced painters wanting to try something new and exciting.

Life Drawing (10 Week Course)

Running on Tuesdays from 7th May, 6:45 – 9pm

Led by experienced tutor and artist, Roy Munday, develop your life drawing skills with a live model, including accurate measuring, colour and drawing techniques. Suitable for all levels, including beginners.

Watercolour (3 Day Course)

Running on Sundays from 30th June, 11:30am – 5pm

Watercolour is one of the most popular mediums for people who take up and explore art. This course is designed for both absolute beginners and those more advanced who are seeking to improve their painting skills.

Lino Cut for Beginners (1 Day Workshop)

Running on Saturday 11th May, 11am – 5pm.

Explore and investigate the creative and rewarding artistic skills of lino cutting with artist and experienced teacher Catherine Carmyllie. Suitable for beginners.

Introduction to Pastels (3 Day Course)

Running on Saturdays from 18th May, 11am – 5pm.

Learn the fundamentals of using soft pastels in this 3 day course led by artist and tutor Mia Cathcart. Starting with the basics of soft pastels and using the work of pastelist Childe Hassam as a case study, we will each recreate some of his famous works over this three day introductory course.

Friends of Williamson Tunnels

Sketching in the Tunnels (1 Day Workshop)

Sunday 16th June, 10am – 1pm.

The Williamson Tunnels are a unique historical architectural feature of Liverpool. This sketching session is a mixed ability class suitable for experienced artists who want to experience drawing in this unique location or beginners looking to learn useful skills to help record the world around you.

BLOCK 2 (6 weeks) – Sundays from 16th June, 1:30 – 3pm – £90

Led by artist Sarah Jane Richards, this fun and creative art workshop will fuel your young one’s creativity exploring art mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture and print making. Starting with the basics, this 6 week series of drawing and multimedia art workshops will focus on drawing techniques, such as line, contour, cross hatching and mark making. It enables children to understand how to plan and execute their ideas and increases their ability to observe the world around them.
