“The county of Merseyside has been created like an ink spot in the middle of the ocean, overlaid by a hand-drawn old map of Liverpool’s city centre streets. The three (yes there are three) Liver birds are flying overhead with the ferry crossing the Mersey.
The print depicts the outline of the region of Merseyside. It serves two purposes; firstly representing the historical economic and social isolation from neighbouring land and water and secondly, highlighting the otherness of the region and its inhabitants. From these difficulties and the inherent pride of its population rose a hotbed of creativity and a wealth of original artists. The print is a metaphorical representation of these aspects.”
