I have recognised that from an early age I always had a visceral response to colour and creative, innovative art pieces. I was fortunate to be educated in a state system that valued the creative arts and I studied art to A Level.
For decades I saw art as a tool to relax and meditate, using watercolours in particular.
At 56 years of age I started to re-evaluate my life journey and I made the decision to take my art seriously; I realised I had a style of my own, my world view being revealed through the medium of oils, acrylics and mixed media. It was tremendously freeing and healing.
.
I am still evolving and I use my experiences to tell a story in my art. So in a sense each piece becomes a part of me, an expression of a single shaft of light penetrating the darkness.
I have been greatly influenced by Van Gogh, Monet, Sisley, Hockney, Matisse, Vlaminck, Derain and Dufy. In addition Jane Austen, Helene Turston and Colm Toibin have influenced my experience and in a sense their prose add colour to my imagination which in turn is revealed within the work of art.

Art does not work in isolation, creativity is influenced by all the creative arts.
