Description
An abstract mixed media painting from my ‘Ripple’ collection that experiments with the movement of water and sunlight reflecting off the surface. I particularly wanted to capture the patterns that travel out when water is fast flowing, exploring an array of lines, shapes, and a multitude of bubbles that have been brought downstream.
Kathryn Cash
Kathryn is an abstract mixed media painter who explores patterns that are inspired by the movement of water and organic shapes.
She is particularly drawn to the flow of streams, and how as they travel through the landscape, they create a multitude of patterns, from the ripples, fallen leaves, petals, the weather and tree roots that may alter the surface and flow of the water.
Working predominantly with acrylic inks, watercolour paints and acrylic paints, Kathryn enjoys experimenting with multiple mark-making techniques, layered with calming and colourful colour tones that capture a flowing movement through the paintings.
She aims to instil a sense of relaxation for the viewer, to almost stop time and notice the smaller details in nature. To give a sense of calm and tranquillity, an escape away from a busy day.
Kathryn trained at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA Hons in Fine Art, and later achieving a PGCE at Manchester University. She has taught as a Fine Art and Textiles lecturer across A level and Degree level courses, as well as becoming a Pre-degree course leader.
She has continued to develop as an artist, going on to sell her paintings in the UK and internationally.
