Michael Lacey is an artist working primarily in collage. His work, typified by a bleak sense of humour and contemplative mood, explores the ruins of a fictional civilisation rich in detail and personal symbolism. Strange characters explore graveyards and beaches, crumbling towers loom above overgrown forests, gargantuan monuments fall to rack and ruin as floating picture frames drift overhead.
Lacey returned to Liverpool in 2012 after graduating from the Glasgow School of Art. Recent projects have included solo shows at OUTPUT Gallery, Editions and A Small View; group exhibitions with The Royal Standard, Dot Art, Incubarte International Art Fair and the Royal Scottish Academy; Innards – a limited edition comic book published by Yuck’n’Yum, four book jackets for independent publishing house Dead Ink and a number of mural commissions in Glasgow and Liverpool. Lacey was awarded winner of the Liverpool Open in 2015, and in 2018 released his first album as a solo musician, entitled Ritual.
