Using acrylic on canvas Katharine finds that a monochromatic theme provides us with a striking effect. Seeing the old architecture in contrast with modern day life she incorporates modern technology such as transport, traffic lights and crowds of people to provide a contemporary feel to a historical aspect.
Katharine has completed many commissions including a bespoke piece for the Mayor of Trafford and has exhibited locally.
Katharine says about her own work:
“I recently picked up my lifelong love for painting last summer when I completed a PGCE in history and found time to rebuild my passion. I love creating 3D art on canvas and have designed several faerie paintings using recycled materials.
As a historian, I have a deep appreciation for architecture especially of my own city; Liverpool. I set about painting the streets I love but wanted to celebrate them in an original way. That is why all of my street scenes are on tall, thin canvases. I call them my ‘Squeeze Frames’.”
