John Sutherst
John is a Liverpool based artist who retired early from his career as a gynaecologist to pursue his passion for painting. He has since found great success with his wide range of vivid and striking work.
“My pictures are mainly about colour, whether they be landscapes, flowers or figure studies. Pastel is my favourite medium, as I find that it is versatile enough to cope with all of these subjects. However, it is not easy to do large scale pictures in pastel because of the need to cover them with glass; so I have recently shifted to oil on large canvases for some subjects and found that the freedom of the extra space has allowed a move to less figurative work.”
