Claire Western
Wirral based artist Claire Western says about her work:
‘Nature plays a big role in my creation process. I am inspired by the lines, edges and colours that I see when I am out exploring as well as the experience along the way. I often find myself lost in simplifying the forms in my head. I try to translate this to my art by letting the mediums consume a surface or interact with other colours, with little or no interference into the movement. This fascinates me, as this process gives the potential outcome an ambiguity which is most intriguing. This is in complete contrast to the line work which is very purposeful and rigid which I always add last, it grounds the work and gives it solidity and balance.
Creating art has always been a part of my life. Since a very early age I was surrounded by creativity and found great pleasure in all aspects of expression, whether that be through art, writing or music. I graduated from Margaret Street School of Art, Birmingham with a Fine Art degree and have since continued to work on my practice.’
