David Brown paints in oils with his chosen subjects being people – portraits and nudes – and townscapes. He tends to produce work in series – recent ones include nudes in strong light, portraits with interesting light effects, townscapes with dramatic shadows and Liverpool shop windows. David has also produced a series of ink paintings on canvas for several ‘themed’ exhibitions.
David draws people from life at his club and home studio whilst keeping a journal which has accompanied him on many travels. He usually paints in a ‘realistic’ style and among the many artists whose work he admires: Burton Silverman, Andrew Wyeth, Ken Howard, Lucian Freud and John Ward.
